hey, i have a 26" widescreen lcd panel hooked up through a DVI cable. when i try to watch a dvd on it i can't get the apsect ratio right...first of all the dvd itself has the black bars included with the film. no matter what resolution i put the panel in the computers display properties (1024x768, 1360x768) or the panels aspect settings or the dvd program settings (ati dvd player or powerdvd) i can't get it right. usually i would zoom in from 4:3 to keep the ratio but the panel doesn't allow zooming in monitor mode. the only way i've been able to do it so far correctly is in 4:3...where there is black bars displayed all around the picture...the rest is stretched... is this because dvds with the black bars aren't fully compatible with widescreen monitors/tvs? or could it be something else?

You need to find out what the native resolution of your panel is. Set your computer to its native resolution. That way, your computer will be displaying things in the correct aspect ratio, and your DVD player app will have a chance to actually adjust the DVD's aspect ratio accordingly.
