Found this article while browsing, seems pretty amazing that they'd do that and still charge $14.99 for a movie:

That's nothing. If I increase the font size while viewing Doom9 it costs me twice as much to read it as before!

I got a gift voucher for the store a while back and was pretty miffed with the quality of their 320x240 music videos. As you can only play them in QT (unless you decrypt em), and QT seems to have an evil upsampler, they looked very blocky. Ancient 40mb MPEG1 versions of the same file looked better :(

The issue really isn't with Movies, those were'nt there before, the issues is with TV Shows and Music Videos that were there before they went to 640x???

How can QuickTime have such bad scalers? It just blows me away.

Did you guys know that whenever you watch a DV file in quicktime player, it only decodes at half resolution by default? What's up with that?

Apple REALLY dropped the balls on the scalers though, I mean come on at least impliment bi/trilinear! Lanczos would be much better!

You can't use trilinear without another existing file with a resolution larger than the size you want, then you weighted average the upsize and downsize. You mean bilinear/cubic?

Did you guys know that whenever you watch a DV file in quicktime player, it only decodes at half resolution by default? What's up with that?
Thats a relict from the ancient days where you couldn play DV at realtime - why its still there or why Quicktime (non-Pro) doesnt have a 'show full res' button beats me :p

good god what can't play DV in realtime, a 200 mhz PPC 604???? or a Pentium 3 with Windows Quicktime? :) Interesting factoid though

QuickTime is actually a decent system, if only they fixed a couple aspects of it!!!
