Splitting Encoding into parts?

I don't have a fast computer, i was wondering if there would be any negative effects of encoding 1080i to a lower resolution into more manageable chunks then recombining them when its all done so i can do a bit a night instead of sacrificing my pc for days??

Depends on what encoding mode. For 2-pass encodings it certainly matters, for 1-pass (wether it is bitrate based or crf/qp) it won't really make a difference.
