Why does Media Info say x264 .mp4 files created with MeGUI was done using itunes?


here is a screenshot, of opening a .mp4 x264 file encoded with MeGUI.

it says its made with itunes!! what?? is that a bug with media info, or does MeGui really use something from itunes??

propably this tool doesnt realise that apple didnt create mp4 and not all mp4 files are created by itunes...

when i load .mp4 files created by avi demux 2.3 preview 1, encoded with x264, the media info tool reports the codec as H264 and does not mention itunes anywhere.

i wonder why its different???

I've discovered that if the MP4 AVC stream is within an MP4 file, it will list it as H.264 with Quicktime as the clickable "Web" link on the right.

I am using MediaInfo 0.7.3.1, and the display of the file still MPEG-4 though. Are you using the same version?

If I change containers (to matroska) it will show the file as being AVC with a link to ffdshow instead.

Old MediaInfo verison perhaps?
