View Full Version : Rip in What Mode For RB?

What mode should one rip in for encoding by RB? File, IFO or ISO?

If I'm not mistaken it's File or ISO is OK if you mount it in a Daemon drive (which I know by name but not how to do.)

Which method works best or do they both come out the same?

Are there any other differences?

What's the purpose/use of an IFO rip?

I'm using the unmentionable software to rip and I think all the guides have been removed from most websites.

Rip in File Mode. You can do it in ISO and then mount it but that's just taking the very long route. File Mode will do fine.

some people prefer to burn DVD's with ImgBurn (i am one of those people), which only burns in ISO format.

You can build an ISO with ImgBurn now. So after you've done all the editing etc to the ripped DVD you can burn it easily.

I'm a huge fan of Imgburn too!

That isn't true for the new versions above v.2.0.0.0. ;)
You can build an ISO with ImgBurn now.
The build mode doesn't build an iso but burns directly to disc without the need of creation an ISO first.
Both the current free and pro versions of DVD-RB are supporting this feature. ;)

You can do it either way. You can even run the job directly off the disc if you're using AnyDVD. It may slow it down, though.

Did you mean DVD-Rebuilder or ImgBurn? I meant ImgBurn can create an ISO and then burn it.

Of course I was talking about ImgBurn as RB can't burn. ;)
The advantage of the new ImgBurn build mode is that you can directly burn RB's dvd-files folder to disc without having to create an ISO first.

Rippraff and linx05, your both right.... ImgBurn v2.0.0.0 and up can both burn from file straight to disc and can build an ISO from files..... but the topic for this thread was "Rip in What Mode For RB?" not burning ;)

I tend to rip with RipIt4Me in Movie and Menus mode (subset of file mode). If the menus are too big, MenuShrink (http://jean.laroche.free.fr/MenuShrink/) cuts them down to size, ready for DVD Rebuilder (http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/).

The fact that threads are turning in another direction happens permanently. If you read something which you think isn't correct don't you reply because it's going off topic then?

Concerning which rip mode, everything's being answered with linx05 very first post. :)

I was replying cause rahzels answer is IMHO wrong for more than one reason. It isn't true that ImgBurn can only burn ISO files. I could have mentioned as well that the way how you rip a disc has nothing to do with how you burn RB's output later.

Concerning ImgBurns build mode I know that you can use it for writing an ISO file too but that isn't the main purpose. Build function was primarily implemented by LUK! to give users the ability to burn directly to disc and he made another fantastic job with this feature. In connection with RB build mode isn't intended to write ISO as the Pro version can do this for its own with mkisofs.exe for a very long time and with the brand new free version the only possibility is to write directly to disc.

Isn't that a bit risky, what with disc read errors et al?

im well aware that ImgBurn can build ISO's, but i dont see the point in doing this, as you can select to output to ISO automatically with DVD-RB.

i've never tried this "ImgBurn directly to disc" setting before (as i prefer not to burn right after the rip), is this only possiible with DVD-RB? ImgBurn can't burn in file mode without DVD-RB, can it? don't you have to build an ISO?

Hi!ImgBurn can't burn in file mode without DVD-RB, can it? don't you have to build an ISO?This is incorrect. The current version of IMGBurn is perfectly able (select "Build Mode") to INDEPENDENTLY burn a DVD fileset, without having to create an .ISO image file (and without anything to do with DVD Rebuilder)...

It can, that's what I'm trying to explain. ;)
Use the new "build" mode, set the source files/folder and destination drive and burn. If you like to see a more detailed guide, here we go (http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=1779).don't you have to build an ISO?
No. :)
