I'm looking for available softwares able to rewrap MP4 files to AVI without transcoding the audio and video tracks ( MPEG-4 ASP or AVC for video and AAC-LC for audio ). Actually, I would like to play already encoded MP4 files on a Archos device which is only supporting AVI file format ...

Use AVIMuxGUI but AVC and AAC in AVI is not a good idea...

Avimux_GUI doesn't support MP4 files as input. You have to demux each streams fisrt with MP4Box. raw AVC streams can be muxed into AVI within AVC2AVI. At last, remux video AVI and AAC through Avimux_GUI.
Note: if you don't like command line tools, Yamb is able to extract streams from MP4 and even to remux directly raw ASP to AVI.

I'd be very surprised if just remuxing would make the files playable on an Archos.

I've never made the test yet, but I think it could work, the tech specs say :
"MPEG-4 ASP@L5 AVI (MPEG-4: ISO standard by Moving Picture Experts Group ; AVI: audio/video file container by Microsoft) without GMC and Quarter Pixel.
H.264 and AAC sound with optional software plug-ins."
It just doesn't support MP4 file format yet ...
Thanks you Sharktooth and Kurtnoise13 for your help. I'll try the process you pointed out to demux and remux the MP4 files to AVI. However, I'm still interested in more straightforward workflows in order to do it in one step only.

H.264 and AAC sound with optional software plug-ins."i would bet a lot that it does not support avc-in-avi, cause nothing sane supports this...

Avidemux might be able to do it, but I have no idea whether it can save avc to avi or not.

Sort of
You will have startcode-less avc in avi
Depending on the player might work or not
It works the other way around as lavformat will strip the startcodes if they are present when exporting to mp4.
