Hello everyone I'm new to this forum. Some background info is I have the DVICO Fusion 5 RT video card and I record QAM fine on my PC. I got the card to record NFL games and I want to make highlight clips for different games and players.
When chopping up the original .ts file into pieces w/ HDTV2MPEG I find that when I play them there is a lot of skipping, stuttering and audio synch problems.
My question is what can I use to either fix these clips or to make clips from the original TS file? Remember these are football highlights so I may take only a 3 second sample here and there and merge multiple samples together.
Also would it be easier to convert the large ts file to xvid and then edit the xvid?

Also would it be easier to convert the large ts file to xvid and then edit the xvid? No, to my knowledge you can ONLY edit Xvids on keyframes, and they won't be where you want to cut.
Try VideoReDo Plus. It's free to try for 14 days, and $50 thereafter, but it works. If you are going to be doing a lot of TS editing, do yourself a favor--it's the best tool of its kind around.

I agree. VideoRedo really is great - worth the $
The freeware method is more clunky:
1) Download MpegStreamClip http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/MPEG_Streamclip_1.0.1.zip
2) Convert your Transport Stream file to regular Mpeg2 within StreamClip: (FILE--->Convert to MPEG2)
3) Cut and save the bits you want with Mpeg2Cut2.

Thanks I'll try them both.
Will video redo eliminate the skipping and stuttering when I combine clips?

Stuttering and skipping, eh ? That can be due to a multitude of factors.
1) What kind of PC ?
2) Which media player are you using ? I have trouble playing 1080i content unless I use VLC.
3) So the raw Transport Stream files DON'T stutter when you play them back? Does the stuttering happen ONLY after you combine clips ?

Stuttering and skipping, eh ? That can be due to a multitude of factors.
1) What kind of PC ? I have a regular Dell P4 3.0GHz
2) Which media player are you using ? I have trouble playing 1080i content unless I use VLC. When playing w/ my DVICO software I have no issues. When I convert to MPGE-2 I can play w/ Media Player Classic as well.
3) So the raw Transport Stream files DON'T stutter when you play them back? Does the stuttering happen ONLY after you combine clips ? The raw TS files work good w/ the DVICO software. Skipping only occurs when I fast forward or scroll ahead. But if I just click play and let it go it doesn't skip unless the file has been cut. So if I take the commercials out w/ HDTV2MPEG it will skip in some spots.

I think what happens a lot of the time is the soundtrack is sent with a negative delay value, so the sound comes first before the video does. So when you cut and merge the clips with HDTV2MPEG, it does not alter the delay, so you end up with pieces that have audio but n video at the beginning, and video but no audio at the end. When you join these together, you might get what you are experiencing. It sounds like you need a program to eliminate the delay on the audio, so you can make clean cuts. This may be more difficult to do than it sounds, so if VideoReDo can do this, that could be why it is not free.

I'm still experiencing this problem. I guess a general question would be what tools can I use to easily make .TS (video) file clips then combine them and mux them with my own audio?
I have about 6 full NFL games saved. I just want to clip key plays, demux the audio, combine the multiple video files, then mux the only large video file with my own music. What would be the best approach in getting this done?

@TiKyle
Use ProjectX instead. No skips, pauses or trash between cuts.

I make HD Highlight clips of Laker games, so I know where your coming from.
If you want to split audio and video, then use the demux option. This will separate the audio and video into .ac3 and .m2v segments.

Try running your TS file thru Mpeg2Repair before doing anything else.
Also, what container type do you want the resulting movie to be in?? TS, MPG, AVI, MP4, etc?

The container type doesn't matter. I can keep it in TS format. I will try the ProjectX this weekend. I have about 8 full length Colts games and I need to make clips because each game is running me about 16GB and that's with the commercials removed.
Revgen I may contact you again if it doesn't go smoothly. Thanks for everyones input.

I have numerous (nearing 1000) HiDef (1080i & 720p) sports clips that I've captured via firewire off my Comcast DVRs (two 3416's) and I've done all my editing with Womble's Mpeg Video Wizard (
http://www.womble.com/products/mvw.html). I haven't tried muxxing in my own audio, but I've been really impressed with how well it cleans up video that can be glitchy playing raw in VLC.
Let us know what you end up doing that works.
