OK so this is kind of an odd problem, in my opinion.
LG 4163B

My DVD burner has worked fine for a number of years (one, two?) and just fairly recently I noticed that it would no longer play DVD's. I know it used to play DVD's, and I have PowerDVD installed, but for some reason, it just keeps spinning up/spinning down/spinning up/spinning down/etc... till it complains there's no disc in the drive.

Keep in mind it will still read/write Audio and Data CDs. It will also still read/write Data DVDs. I feel like either there's some obvious fix I'm just not thinking of, or else it's broken. :(

Any input, folks?

Thanks!
-Steve

BTW, I don't know why I have two logins. But do know that sdh13 = sdhull. Sorry about the possible confusion here.

I had a similar situation awhile back with my first DVDRW.

Could be OS issues, could be the DVD part of the drive is dead. Use a Linux Live CD (or other similarly easily booted OS) to determine if you are having hardware problems.

They're so cheap nowadays it's not really a big deal, a new drive costs the same as a 100pk of media :D

Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US...
