I have the money right now to buy the OPPO DV-970HD which would output to a standard TV. I plan to in the next year or so to buy a HDTV. Should i go with the OPPO which would just play standard def and upscale or save another $100 and go with the IO-DATA which will play back divx/xvid at HDTV resolutions.
I mostly encode my backup with AutoGK XviD to DVD+R and put 1-3 movies per disc.
any help or suggestions would be great
Thanks

You seem to be forgetting that devices such as the I-O DATA LinkPlayer2, Buffalo LinkTheater, ContelDigital DV228N1, KiSS DP-600, Pinnacle Systems ShowCenter 200, SnaZio SZ1350, Quartek WHD500-V9, JVC SRDVD-100U, Zensonic Z500 etc can all connect to your home network and serve files from your PC and/or external HDD ;)

Yeah that is a good option. It is just that most of those are at least $100 more than the oppo 970HD and the 970HD has a usb connection so it might take an external HD
The linkplayer2 does not upscale last i heard unless a new firmware update fixed that.
The Zensonic looks great but is a bit expensive. Might have to save for that one for a little longer and it is just becoming availble in the us now.
Does the Z500 upscale dvd ?
Does the buffalo linktheatre upscale?

The Zensonic looks great but is a bit expensive. Might have to save for that one for a little longer and it is just becoming availble in the us now.Zensonic are preparing to launch a couple of new devices (the CS505 and CS510) over in North America, under the Ziova brand name. These will be far more competitively priced ;)
And yes, the Z500 can upscale via HDMI. And componant (once the region-free hack has been applied).
Does the buffalo linktheatre upscale?I can't say for sure... However, you should be able to find more detailed information about most of the devices I mentioned over on the AVS forum.
Cheers
