I'm looking to upgrade my Philips DVP-642/37 mainly because of stretched 720x480 XviD encoded playbacks and problems with AS@L5 recommended settings. I understand this results from the ESS Vibratto chip, which brings me to look for another SAP.
My drawback getting the Philips 5140/37 is that it lacks S-Video output and Optical Digial. My TV (27" Sanyo CRT) only supports S-Video and wonder if the composite on the 5140 will result with degradation. Is there a noticeablel difference between coaxial vs optical digital? Aside from these issues the 5140/37 seems ideal.
I will appreciate input regarding recommended upgrades from the 642/37; one that supports true resolutions and is most compliant with Xvid profiles, does not have the ESS Vibratto chipset ... and of course, reasonably priced. :thanks:
