Hello, I am trying to convert ripped dvd karaoke .vob to .avi, and my resolution for the songs are different. I have all the karaoke songs ripped by chapter on my hard drive and I used AutoGK to convert to Xvid. When completed, some songs has a lower resolution of 256x192 and other has a resolution of 560x416. I don't know what's the problem. Here are my settings:

Custom Size = 85MB
Output resolution settings = Auto width
.sharpmatrix (Xvid only) = selected

everything else is default. And my source has a resolution of 720x480 4:3 AR.

P.S. I tried playing around with the Advance Setting/Output resolution settings. I still get a low resolution or a really long width. Is there an option in AutoGK for me to control the Height?

Thanks

Output resolution settings = Auto width
If you say 'auto width', AutoGK will increase/decrease the resolution of the resultant avi based on the compressibility of the source. The source which resulted in 256x192 was very poorly compressible, hence AutoGK opted for a lower resolution. By the same logic, the other source had a better compressibility, so AutoGK chose a higher resolution - 560x416.

If you want to control the width (height in turn can be controlled when you control the width), use the Fixed Width = ? option in the Advanced Settings.

I say the best option it's to set the minimum resolution which please you...For me for example is 512...but that depend on the movie duration, final size. You can increase minimum resolution in Advanced tabs to 608 etc...

Hi,

You have your answers from previous poster. Just wanted to add that when choosing a fixed (not minimum) width, AGK uses only the sharpmatrix. This has advantages: better quality with big output size and disadvantages: more bitrate needed for low compressible sources.

AGK really maximises encoding with full auto. If short encode, my suggestion for a 2 passes: just set the size and go full auto. If not satisfied, toy with the parameters and re-encode, you will be capable of comparing the results.
