hi,
this may not be the right forum, apologies if it's not. I was given a couple of DVD rips in .avi format to watch, but the sound just comes and goes. It doesn't stay at the right level for longer than 4/5 secs, disappears for the same time then comes back, making the film unwatchable.
I know there's nothing wrong with the file itself because on my friend's PC it works perfectly, so I obviously have a setting problem. Doesn't matter whether I use Media Player, BS Player or DivX Player, the result is the same.
The only thing I noticed was that on .avi files that work the bitrate for the audio was 128 or 196 or something similar. These files have bitrates of 448 kps. Could that be the problem?
I have a Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS soundcard, but I can find no bitrate setting to change there. The fact it doesn't work on any player make me think there is no problem with the individual settings of those players, especially when the lower bitrate files play fine.
If the bitrate is the likely problem how can I get round it, or am I barking up the wrong tree completely?
