I need to convert mpeg-2 file to avi for Adobe After Effects (which doesnt like mpg for some reason). I tried using autogk with xvid codec but After Effects would even open it. I tried to select Divx but gave a popup error that said divx wasnt installed.

My questions are- how do I install the divx codec for autogk so I can encode that way

and

Is there a better, easier way to convert mpeg-2 to avi that would be compatable with Adobe After Effects.

Try VirtualDubMod, which can convert to uncompressed AVI (maybe use the HuffYUV format) which will be more easily edited. DivX AVI is a lossy conversion and is not meant for importing for edit purposes.

Great, thanks for the advice, I'll see if I can find VirtualDubMod. Is it fairly easy to use? I'm a bit of a noob.

I downloaded VirtualDubMod and it looks like it made a big difference. Thanks for the advice! I'm wondering how to make sure my settings are to export as HuffYUV format? I didn't see anything that matched that...
