View Full Version : Dvd Decrypter Reads but does not Write

I got a new Windows Media Center PC with a LG GSA-H30L Dvd Multi drive. DD 3.5.4 successfully did an ISO rip. Then I closed DD, put in a blank dvd-r into the drive, waited for the disc light to go out, and restarted DD. The program went into an infinite wait loop, with the the message "Initialising disc" appearing in the status area of the window. Various other permutations like starting DD with no disc in the drive give me a message like Searching for Scsi / Atapi devices ...

This is sick. Ctrl-alt-del does not work to stop DD. A hard power down is the only way to restore the system. I guess I have lost the ability to use DD as a writer, on this confounded system. I'll try doing a burn tonight with Stomp or some other writing software, and report back.

Try ImgBurn. DVD Decrypter hasn't been updated in a while and may not be compatible with your drive.

Thanks, I'll look up imgburn.

I tried the bundled software (Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7) which came with the PC, and it seems to be able to burn a dvd-r with all the structure information necessary to play on a dvd player. So, the dvd writer works. It's a shame Dvd Decrypter doesn't support newer burners, but it was a great program in its day. I'm worried about manufacturers crippling it further by making it impossible to read discs as well.

There probably won't be any such changes made to drives since Blu-Ray is already out - making such a modification to an already "obsolete" hardware would be cost-prohibitive for the manufacturers. Chances are that traditional DVDs will be completely phased out before DVD Decrypter becomes useless.

This appears to be more of a burning issue than a decrypting one. Thread moved.

Hi!Then I closed DD, put in a blank dvd-r into the drive, waited for the disc light to go out, and restarted DD. I ask this because I am not aware of DVD Decrypter being less than 100% functional with any DVD-ROM or DVD burner.

You stated that the program was able to create an .ISO. So it is capable of reading from your drive and writing to your harddrive.

How big was the .ISO?

What type of media, single or double layer, are you trying to burn?

Have you successfully used DVD Decrypter to burn .ISOs previously, on any system?

I've had the program hang like that a number of times, including when I first tried using it to burn a DL disk. It required a complete power-down of the PC.

DVD Decrypter does not support all drives for burning - ask LUK if you doubt this. Ollie W. Holmes' new drive is an SATA one, and afaik SATA optical drives weren't around at the last update of DVD Decrypter.

Actually, there's no reason for them not to work.

The program (as with ImgBurn) works by MMC specs - and all drives are supposed to follow them.
