MainConcept multi-pass encoding

If I create a 1 pass VBR .mpv encode in MainConcept and then take that .mpv as a new video source and encode it again to create another .mpv, is that the equivalent of doing 2 passes? And if so, would that be a way to do multipass encoding using this tool?

No. That will encode the file twice. = not good.

edit: On a true multipass encode, the file is not actually encoded on the first pass. The encoder will look at the file on the first pass to decide which is the best way to encode it, and store this information.
On the second pass the encoder will encode the file using the information it gathered on the first pass.

That's a real bummer although I didn't really think it would work--but sometimes there is a workaround limitations. Too bad multipass is not built into this tool. The only encoder I know that will do more than 2 passes is CCE. Thanks for the reply.

If an encoder has decent ratecontrol, then 2 passes is all you need.

You can configurate it with 2 passes.

Back in the Detailed Settings dialog:
Ticking the checkbox Enable line filtering allows you to smooth the edges in a video, in
order to achieve better compression. Unfortunately, the picture will get slightly fuzzy.

The checkbox 2-pass encoding enables the corresponding option. During the first pass
the encoder analyzes the video, and uses this information to optimize the second pass.
