Hi

I have followed the decryption/ripping tools for some years now on windows, and usually used Matrix 1 as test DVD. And as everybody who has followed Doom9s tutorials and quality comparisons, this is no problem.
Now I have tried for some month to find the same kind of tools under linux. And thanks to this forum, there is alot of help.

Then I notice that there is a problem with copying the vobfiles. When playing the result files,(vlc) some scenes are skipped. In VOBs and the encoded avi. (DVD::rip).
Some will know, that this DVD has an early copy protection, which includes redundant CELLs.
I tried the different copy tools. tccat, cpvts, vobcopy, with same result. Including cpdvd, which might be have an impact on the final IFO-file. I don't know.
I tried playing the DVD directly (vlc), with No problem. So I'm sure the libdvdcss/libdvdnav, etc, are ok.
Today I played the VOB files again using vlc. Jumped to the section with the redundant CELLs, with the slider. And then I could see some of the skipped CELLs. Even though they are not played, when playing normaly.
Then I played the WOBs in XINE. With No problem?!?!?!?!

This makes me wonder. The LBAs (isn't it called that?) is not adjusted in the final VOBs, when the redundant CELLs are removed. (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not an expert on IFO and VOB charataristics...).

Does anybody know if this is possible after the copy process. Is there a linux tool somewhere?

cheers, Ralle

You could try the PSL2 plugin for PgcEdit. It has some manual functions to remove the crappy cells from the IFOs, but wou will still have to remove them from the VOB files with another tool. Under Windoze, FixVTS is perfect for that job. You can use it under wine, too.

Note that the PSL plugin requires DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD, but not to post-process the IFOs. Also, I think it is discontinued now, so don't expect a full automatic process!

Not sure RipIt4Me works under wine, but it's the best anti-ARccOS tool for the moment!

Try my DVD2HDD ...

It will not solve the problem. It is based on vobcopy.

Yep. RipGuard and ARccOS are almost the same thing. Both method are based exactly on the same crap, although there are some little variations.
I wonder if Sony copied Macrovision, or the opposite?!

You might want to try mplayer. If the dvd plays fine in mplayer then it can dump the vob stream to a single decrypted vob file with the "-dumpstream" flag. It won't dump the whole dvd, just one title and angle per command, or all the audio tracks at once but it hasn't failed me yet for a simple backup.
