I'm not a noob but sure feel like one right now! I major upgraded my PC (new mobo, cpu, ram, etc.) about a month ago and everything runs fine, except...
When I view a vid (mpg or avi) with Winamp, or Media Player 9, or Xing, or a couple others, they play black & white. Same holds true for streaming media through MP9. Here's where it gets strange! If I play those same vid files with WinDVD or Apple's QT player, they play fine in color. WTF?? I have installed a ton of different codecs hoping one would solve the problem but so far nothing! I'm stuck!
Anyone have any clues or ideas on what is happening here and how to fix this? I'd appreciate any help you can offer me. Thanks.

Find out which DirectShow filters are involved when you playback one of the files that produce the problem.

OK...I think I found it!! Found an old thread from this forum:

http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-67341.html

In it is mentioned about hitting a setting in Winamp so I startec nosing around in Winamp's settings. The setting was for "Allow hardware video overlay (recommended) -- best performance)" and it was enabled. I disabled it and color!

How freakin' strange as this was a default setting when I installed it!

If you have a nvidia graphic card, it looks like the 9x.xx driver series break playback when using overlay.
