Hello,

the 2nd Oppo player 970 mentioned memory card reader and USB connection!! (Homer Simpson droolz).

Would any of you be able to confirm that it is a USB v2.0? Searched without success so far....

Also, how about loading a xvid movie on a SD card and have it play from there...?

This would be great if either way works! Save me tons of time transferring the source to a dvd to be viewed on a tv.

TIA.

I know this topic is old, but my Oppo 970HD is in the mail and I can try to check this if I ever get around to it. IMHO the USB/card reader is probably just for pictures.

I'm not absolutely certain about this particular model, but most of the DVD players with USB or SD slots can playback movies from them. Let us know if you run into any difficulties with it.

Be Carefull,
not all OPPO 970HD model offer USB and Memory Card Reader. Some country didn't received full features. At least one that sold in Thailand not have that features. It's USB 1.1 with USB 2.0 compatibility.

Well I have my 970HD set up and it does play video from USB and flash media, but the USB is only 1.1 speed. The only Divx video I've encoded so far though doesn't really look all that good despite being 1300kbps for 720x400. I was less impressed with it than my 2 pass x264 encodes at 950kbps but I guess thats because you have to use Home Theater Compliant Divx settings. Also it didn't seem to be playing smoothly but that might partly be the result of my relatively slow 1GB SD card. I have a 133x 512MB card but I haven't tested with that yet.

Lol, I have since bought the last(locally) LG LDA-531 model which when hacked, also upconverts through the component cables instead of the HDMI. It does have a memory CF/SD card reader....horrible. Tried to view some 2000x2000(res) pics from the 50x speed SD card, slow as hell!

Comrade general:
Thanks for the usb 1.1 info. You may want to give it another test with a HIGH SPEED rated usb drive such as one from OCZ's Rally2 model or similar. I think it may help in eliminating jerkiness...cheapo usb-drives are usually slow in read speed.

I picked up a Rally2 and tried it out last night with an episode of Doctor Who. It was quite a bit smoother than the cheapo memorex thumb drive I had used before. It was still jerky, but it was an improvement...
