This is the error I keep getting when I try to burn:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/nin96932/error.jpg
I've had this problem before, but it eventually went away. Now it's back. I'm lucky if I can get one disc burned out of every 25 attempts at max.
Just wondering if anybody here knew what was causing the error window and what exactly it meant?
Thanks.

Actually that particular screenshot doesn't match with that particular log file; the firmware version on your Plextor drive changed from one post to the next. But anyway...
If you switch from SPTI to ASAPI I'll bet your problem goes away.

So I tried switching it from SPTI to ASAPI but it keeps giving me this:
I 20:28:48 Initialising ASAPI...
E 20:28:48 Unable to initialise ASAPI! - ASAPI.DLL
E 20:28:48 Reason: The specified module could not be found.
E 20:28:48 You need to install an ASAPI manager.

Actually I meant ASPI, but really either is better than SPTI. I have seen the switch to ASPI fix the exact problem you are having on two separate boxes, both with that same Plextor drive. And yes you need the proper DLL's installed. I don't remember where I downloaded them from but I'm sure it started with a Google search for them...

Whilst using ASPI may get around some issues with your system, it's NOT a decent solution.
Stick with SPTI, that's what everyone uses day in day out and gets all the testing.
Try burning with some decent discs (RITEKF1 are not decent) - something like Verbatim (MMC dye) or Taiyo Yuden.
Drives do die eventually too. My 716 only lasted a year before I had to get a replacement - and I don't even use it that much!

Well I went and picked up some good quality discs(Verbatim) and have now burned 5 straight discs without a single problem.
Last time I buy Memorex.....

Last time I buy Memorex.....:goodpost: If only we could raise that to 72 point, bold, italic and underlined. So many problems would go away.

@blutach
Amen to that! At one time, I went through a lot of Memorex disks (they were actually made by Ritek, back before buying Ritek became risky) and for the longest time, had not one issue with them. Then I picked up a spindle of 100 16X... I couldn't get a decent burn on most of them even if I burned at 4X. To call them "pathetic" would be to insult that particular word! It's been Verbatim ever since.

I always had good luck with Memorex discs before this, than had a ton of trouble with TDK discs. So I bought some Maxell discs and every one of them worked great.
I'll be sticking with Verbatim though.

@nin96932
Sorry if you already knew this, but a very good place to find Verbatims at decent prices is newegg.com. They often run instant rebates, or regular specials on items like this; so they're worth peeking in on every now and again. Pretty speedy shipping, too. Of course, if every burn on a more expensive brand is a good one, they actually wind up costing you far less at regular price than the bargin-bin varieties.
Good luck to you!
