Problem with converting PAL Version of SWORDFISH

Hey I was wondering if anyone knew how to convert the actual movie to Divx4, the problem is that the first vob file of the movie starts with an inserted interview with travolta and jackman which is full screen, then it finishes in the same vob file and the movie starts, and because the interview is full screen and the movie is wide screen, I am having trouble converting it and the divx encoder says it cant do it (i am using mpeg2avi GUI). Im thinking that i have to split the vob file to get rid of inserted interview, but i dont know the actual point of the end of the interview in terms of KB so I have to keep on geussing when using a vob splitter. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hey millsy,
I think DVD2AVI is what you are looking for. If you have never used it, you could "chop" the interview from the beginning at the very moment you wish and also begin ripping the sound track to wav/ac3/mp3 at the moment too. This would frame serve the film to virutally any other program. I think it is the best starting point for really any form of DivX conversion and i'm sure alot the other guys would agree. Download it (v1.75) from the download section. v1.8x has vbrmp3 support(a wee bit buggy) Read the guides if needed. (Nice one Doom9)

I just encoded this movie yesterday using Gordian Knot, i do not have the interviews etc that you encontered... i used Smartripper 2.41 to rip and encoded using Gordian Knot (an awesome tool)

BTW: Swordfish - PAL 16:9 Region 4

OK thanx, I must have done something really stupid with smartripper cos it definately had both the interview and the start of the movie in the 1st vob file for me, I dont know how I managed to do that but anyway thats just me, always doing things the hard way :) .

this is'nt anything u have done.its the way the DVD was written.
anyway you'll be happy to know theres a perfect but complicated solution.
the audio also has a bit of a quirk in it.there should be 7 vobs
on the disk.i won't try to explain it here just follow these steps.

1.extract ac3 audio wih DVD2AVI from all seven vobs.and encode

2.encode the movie (preferably with gknot)from vob2 to 7
just use the same widescreen res for the interview bit at the
start of vob2 as for the movie(you'll be cutting it out later
anyway).

NOTE:if you encode the movie from vob1 the audio will be way
out of sych.(all of vob1 is interview footage anyway)

3.ok now use nadub to multiplex the audio and video using the same
delay that DVD2AVI gave you.

4.use virtualdub to cut out the interview bit at the start making sure to cut the audio too.(to learn to use virtualdub go to
www.doom9.org and read the guide)
