ok I wanted to play the dvd on my computer so I can watch it, poweDVD gives me an error. and this is what is says: "Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported." and it refers to the video_ts.ifo file.

I was told disney dvds have some kind of different structure, because they have this auto play feature. but as I said powerDVD wont play it. now, I tried to rip the dvd (dvd decrypter gave errors, but the latest dvd FAB seemed to rip it fine) so I tried this to see if it would play directly off my hard drive. no luck. same error. anyone have a clue how to fix this? or how do I edit the dvds files and maybe burn a copy that will play on my computer? I just want to watch this movie!!!! and disney's stupid DVD wont let me. maybe I need to go buy a actual dvd player heh

I use open DVD files on hard drive, but it gives me the error either way, if i Play the dvd itself, or the dvd files on my hard drive.

Does your original, commercial DVD play properly on a standalone DVD player?

it is a original commercial DVD. I have the DVD. my brother watched it in his regular DVD player, so I assume the dvd isnt at fault. but it wont play on my pc. so as I said I cant even watch the dvd. its telling me the video_ts.ifo file isnt supported. this is what it says when I try to play it from my hard drive (I ripped it with DVD decrypter) "Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported." I also ripped it with DVD Fab decrypter, and get that same error when I try to play the DVD files. now, when I put the commercial DVD in my drive and click play in powerDVD I ge this error "An object or name was not found."


but it still wont let me play the commercial DVD either. so if its the ripguard, what do I edit in the ifo's to be able to watch the movie? im sure it has to be something that can be changed. I intalled winDVD to try and play it, and windvd locked up when I went to play the DVD.

Sounds like you've got a hardware problem unrelated to the specific DVD. Can you NOW play any DVDs on your PC?

If it's ARccOS/RG, it should play OK. After all, it plays in your standalone.

ok, I have some other DVD's that were already ripped onto my HD a while back, I went to play one of those, and I am getting the same error. "Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported." so apparently windows is causing a problerm with playing dvd files? how did this happen and how do I fix it? could I system restore back to when I knew the system worked? or was something messed with and changed my system so it wont play DVD files?

heh sorry for all the questions, but ive never had a problem like this before. I know I installed some software recently. chopper XP, vobedit, and the DVD fab beta to replace my old dvd fab decrypter. could a virus cause this also?

Sounds like your HD is corrupted. You may want to try and restore to an earlier date.

ok after talkign with someone about this it appears to be something screwed up in windows. because I get the same error playing ANY dvd files. the error code is 80040265

now whats funny is, if I load WMP and go to a DVD file and click it, it plays in WMP. but my DVD software wont. I was told it might be a registry change causing this?

That's the reason I said go back to an earlier restore date.

You might even try uninstalling/reinstalling PowerDVD.

Ok, instead of trying to reinstall powerDVD I opted to restore as suggested, to remedy the problem. I restored to a date before I did any installing, and sure enough powerDVD works fine now. I can play the DVD itself AND the ripped dvd files. I am not sure what initially caused this, I am assuming some software I installed changed some registry settings which made windows not recognize the dvd files. and caused powerDVD to not load them. anyways thanks to all who offered suggestions and solutions. :) im just going to to have to be careful when installing the software again to make sure that it doesnt cause the issue again. :)
