Xvid profiles: HT-NTSC or ASL5

My standalone dvd player (philips 642/37) handles xvid files. My question is which xvid format (ht-ntsc or asl5) is best. It seems that asl5 produces more flickering than ht-ntsc.

Any input on the differences between these 2 formats will be appreciated. In advance, thanks!

They're not formats but profiles. Those profiles set some "capping" on xvid option so that profiled encodes can play back on players that support that profile.
ASL5 is Advanced Simple (profile) Level 5 while ht-ntsc should be DivX Home Theatre (NTSC) profile.
For the maximum compatibility with SAPs (StandAlone Players) keep encoding with the DXN HT profiles (PAL or NTSC depending on your country).

If "You Dont Give a Funk(tm)" of the standalone compatibility you can choose the Unrestricted option as well.
