Two questions regarding ffdshow:

1) Where do I get the latest "official" version? (if there's such a thing)
I need a binary, no sources or anything. Intend to run on Athlon XP 3200+ cpu and laptop with Intel Core Duo cpu, so I guess I would benefit most from a 32bit MSVC7 or MSVC8 build with all SSE/MMX/fancy stuff enabled?
I see so many links, it used to be on source forge and then there's Celtic Druid's builds, Milan and Drevil's, and lots more.
What would be best for me?

2) Would you recommend installing anything else, or is ffdshow pretty much all I need to watch the majority of avi/mpg/movs? The only other things I installed were QT alternative and Real alternative.

Thanks a lot for any light you can shed on this matter!

1) Official versions are available at sourceforge.net, but they are outdated.
You can get builds from x264.nl or ffdshow.da.cx
There are not really any "stable" version released. That being said I have never experienced any crashes or other problems with ffdshow. Generally higher revision numbers are better. According to the developers you don't need to get any optimised version because there won't be any speed difference at decoding. The filters may be faster, but the optimisations might also break them. You can read about it here. (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=874074&postcount=2321) A couple of posts down the current problems of ffdshow are mentioned.

2) Along with QT and Real alternative it should be everything you need.

Thanks a lot!

I do intend to use some filters, so an optimized version might make some difference for me.

Besides the links you mentioned, is e.g. this a trustable source?

There's a version from sept 1 2006 there, so newer than the other links. Would this one be better?

i think you should take a look at
ffdshow tryouts (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/)

This is worth looking at... The CCCP. (http://cccp-project.net/)

Most of the builds there are mirrored from ffdshow tryouts. Look at the names of the people that compiled them... they are the same.

Yes, those are the newest official ones. I recommend the clsid builds, because they are the most user-friendly (no incompatibility with any software).

In fact, it is considered stealing (in France).
