hey, i'm new to this forum.
i'm using gordianknot package and xvid to convert dvd to avi file.

objective:
i want a avi file with ac3 sound which is in perfect sync when played in divx certified dvd player

history:
with sound in mp3 format, the avi is in perfect a/v sync both in pc and in divx certified dvd player.
but in case of avi with ac3 audio, converted by gordian knot using all correct procedure, the avi is in perfect a/v sync when played in pc but when it is played in divx certified player/deck, it is out ot sync.

Does anybody has the solution?

check to see if there is a delay on the ac3 audio - dgindex should check this for you and you will have to tell autogk/gk the delay when muxing the files together - also check the player can play ac3, and see if there is any firmware updates for it

I've also worked with the delay created by the dgindex in gordian knot. also my divx certified player is ac3, dts compatible. but the problem exists with ac3.

Instead of trying to fix it, it would be easier to re-rip the disk properly and burn a new copy, assuming of course that the DVD in question is a back-up in the first place. If it's an original, please describe in detail how you are playing it (hardware, player, hookup, etc.) that results in an out-of-synch condition.

I have the same problem. Audio is out of synch on a (retail) DVD by about 200 ms. Now I want to create a fixed backup of the DVD. (I know how to fix sync problems in .avi files but not with a DVD)

Any help appreciated

Yours is not at all the same problem. Look in the DVD Authoring sub-forum.

Rip it to your hard drive. Import the .vob files into dvdlab (pro version has free 30 day trial) which will demux if left to default. Use the audio sync tool (the icon looks like a litte green bar and a little red bar offset and is in the toolbar just above your assets window) to create a new synced audio stream. Add this to your movie and create project. Sync fixed.
