first thanks all for the help i have recieved in the past. i am now kinda familiar with backing up my DVDs and using DVD decryptor and DVD fab to do so. now i want to back up some of my moms VHS movies that she owns and put some kids movies onto DVD from TV (to do this with nero i need to buy some type of MPEG-2 liscense). i have a tuner card with Honestech TVR software that allows me to capture a file and store it as an MPG-2 file (which correct me if i am wrong is what i want). now i would like to write that onto a DVD. when i use DVD Decryptor the file does not show up when i browse for a file to select. am i correct in assuming this MPG format is the wrong type of file for this to be captured in? i have other options like DVD-PAL??? from searching the forums i see virtualDub is popular, would that make this process easier. it seems most of the guides are for capturing which is where i looked for answers but i don't have a problem capturing or backing up DVDs which is also where i looked for answers. any help would be appreciated or directing my to the appropriate forum section as i have found your guides helpful in the past, but did not see one that pertained to this problem.

U should check the guides for authoring DVDs.
ThereŽs nothing wrong with your MPEG-2 (if u used DVD standard settings for the capture).

In your Honestch TVR, there should be an option for choosing wich format and settings the app is using when capturing.
The settings for NTSC are: 720 x 480 pixels, 29.970 fps, interlaced.
For PAL: 720 x 576 pixels, 25.000 fps, progressive.
If u want the MPGs to be DVD-burn ready, then u should also set the DAR to 4:3 or 16:9.
U can use ReStream to check the values for your MPGs (uŽll need to demux the video to .m2v to load it into ReStream).

i have in record settings or my property settings dialog box:
profile Mpeg2
size 640x240 (because any other setting requires more than a 900Mhz proc)
frame rate 29.97 (which is set for me when i change the "size"
quality normal
bitrate 2000
encoding speed good
and i do not see DAR or know what DAR is. i will Wikipedia DAR and seee if i can figure it out. thanks for all your feed back by the way i stilll have not had time to check out the DVD authoring guide which is why my posts are so spread out time wise but it looks like i will be going into work late today so i will try to check it out today as well.

so i have figured out what the above posts are talking about and so today i spent the day capturing video clips from home minis and from recorded vhs tapes and put them into My Sonic DVD which bings up ARC Soft's Show Biz program to do video editing with and when i put together a nice little video with some music and a few effects then go to Make Movie or Create DVD or avi or mpeg file out of this .SBZ project file i get "shobiz exe has generated errors windows will close program must restart" I have a pentium 3 and have noticed that more reputable programs like Roxio and Sony Vegas have requirements of Pent 4 procs to run thier video editing . could this be my only problem or is it MySonic DVD which may be a bum program as it was on this computer when i got it. thier online help tutorials are of no assistance. also when i start the MyfirstDVD.SBZ file to load up my saved program i get an error message that says unknown file name but i just click ok and can manipulate the project at will. does it need converted or can i just rename the file or what? this is starting to go beyond the original scope of my first post i think
