View Full Version : AC3 from TS "too long" after demux

Hello,
I have a problem with a stubborn file.
I am not sure where the problem starts, but here is what I have/use:
Motorola DCT6412
1080 TS
DGIndex 1.4.8
AVSynth 2.5
VDMod 1.5.10.2
I get the D2V and the AC3 file from DGIndex. I create my AVS script, and manually load the AC3 in VDMod.
And here is where it get's weird. In Available Streams, VDM shows that the AC3 sound has the length of 5:52:33:595. The video on the other hand is 2:03:33:539 - the audio is recognized as nearly 4 hours longer than the video.
The first time, I ignore this and I encoded it anyway. 6 hours later, the file was ready, looked good, but the video plays too fast (in Zoom Player). The audio is also out of sync. GSpot shows the framerate at 30fps, and nothing else "weird".
I have captured the stream twice now with D-VHS, and both times the same thing happened.
Does anyone have an idea what happened? Is there a cheap and easy way to fix that? Maybe fix the AC3 header or so?
Thanks
Bucky

(I'm presuming that the .AC3 length of almost 6 hours is incorrect)
Try running the .AC3 file through ".AC3Fix"...

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work. Here is the output:
C:\DVD\ac3fixgui>ac3fix old.ac3 new.ac3
Starting. Input file is old.ac3, output file is new.ac3
Frame length is 1536
Checking frame 103359: Wrong frame length, expected 158756352, got 1536
Writing frame
Current wrongness is 474 bytes
Checking frame 241368: OK
Finished. Found bad frames. Final wrongness is 474 bytes
What is a frame length? I am not sure I understand any of this.
Any other idea? Maybe something but DGIndex to separate the AC3 audio from the TS?

PS: I just set DGIndex to decode the AC3 into a wav file, the length comes out as only 5 minutes too long.

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work. What does VirtualDubMOD indicate the total time of "new.ac3" to be?

sounds like PTS discontinuity or transmission error in TS stream. I suggest you to use mpeg2repair to check the error(don't repair). ProjectX should be able to handle this situation well, use ProjectX to demux TS to m2v and ac3, then create d2v from m2v with dgindex.

@setarip: VDM still shows the same time as the uncorrected audio, it found errors but correcting the frame length apparently didn't fix the issue.
@orbitlee: I am trying this app now (takes quite a bit). Why would you recommend NOT to have the app correct errors?

Bucky Wheat: since mpeg2repair can't repair the PTS discontinuity, but you can paste the check log at here. For example, such kind of message normally means PTS problem.

@Bucky Wheat
Please load the original (multiplexed) video/audio file DIRECTLY into VirtualDubMOD and from the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"
Then
Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box
You might also want to try to process the (multiplexed) original DIRECTLY in VirtualDubMOD...

Ok, here we go:
@setarip: VDM doesn't want to load my TS file, but from what I know it never did, even with files that I know are OK. Can you please explain?

I'm sorry, you probably have to first convert the .TS file to MPEG-2, using a program such as "HDTVtoMPEG2"...

Yeah, I just figured that out, so now VDM is loading the MPEG I created, which takes a long time
(dum di dum)
Here we go:
http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/4519/fileinfogg7.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)
Now that I have loaded the MPEG into VDM, the length only shows as 2:08 - much better but weirdly, still 5 minutes too long.
