Playback jerky on my Apex AD-703 DVD player, but perfect playback on my computer. I'm using a Athlon AMD Processor with 384 megs of RAM and 1.1 gigahertz of processing power. I have tried a simple multiplex and a simple de-multiplex with tmpgenc and I also tried videogear, but know luck yet. I know my dvd player is capable of playing svcds flawlessly, but I'm having problems with creating svcds. This is my third attempt of trying to make a svcd. The name of the movie I'm trying to do is Scary Movie. Basically right now I have a 1.3 gig file that I converted into 2 files about 700 megs a piece. I used tmpenc to cut the files and at this point I have now clue what I'm doing wrong. Again, jerky playback on my dvd player. Perfect playback on my computer. I have enclosed a copy of my log from dvd2svcd. Please take a look at it and let me know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks alot!

Is that the complete log file, or did you truncate it to save space?

The reason I ask is because I can't tell if pulldown was applied to the encode. Since Force Film was activated, the raw encode is at 23.97 fps.

A PC can play back a raw 23.97 fps encode just fine, but a stand-alone won't. I have an Apex player also (model AD660). On those occasions when I've accidentally burned a CD without first applying pulldown, playback was jerky. It's like the player is valiantly trying to keep things in sync, and the only way it knows how is to play back at 29.97 fps (too fast) and breifly pause the movie a couple of times a second.

Anyway, don't know if that's the problem or not, but it was worth suggesting.

Thanks alot for the reply. I'm going to try the answer your question to best of my ability. Please keep in mind I'm very new at this. That was a complete log. The problem I'm having with the pulldown is it stops everytime at 24% of the job. And I've tried the crash option but it starts the whole process over. Since I got I nice 1.27 gig CCE encoded file I didn't think I had to use the pulldown. But now I guess I do. Is this correct? If that is the case I will probably have to try another method of making svcds. Because I've tried dvd2svcd three times now and everytime the pulldown stops at 24% Thanks again for your help. Please excuse my ignorance on this subject. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

What version and build of DVD2SVCD are you using and did you install the full package?

Sometimes improper versions of the programs that DVD2SVCD uses can cause problems, but I can't remember seeing anyone having problems with pulldown. Anyhow, if you didn't install the full package, it would be worth a try to d/l and install the full package of the latest version which is 1.0.5 Build 2.

I think you'll find DVD2SVD works very well once you get it going.

Lots of Luck
:)

Thanks alot for replying. I am using DVD2SVCD_1.0.5_Setup-Build_1.exe. Maybe the new version will work better for me. Thanks again and have a good day.

In my experience, pulldown.exe is an extremely reliable program. Having it stop at 24% probably has nothing to do with DVD2SVCD - it's a command line program and DVD2SVCD just invokes it and steps aside.

Your log file says you have approximately 14 GB of free space, but in my experience ripping DVD discs can confuse Windows. I recommend you run the check disk tool to make sure you really have enough free space (right click the drive, properties, tools, check now). Lack of free space is the only thing I can think of that would prevent pulldown.exe from working.

Anyone else have any ideas.

Thanks again for your help. That is some great advice. I got a lot of stuff on my hardrive and I need to get rid of it. I will give it a try again and see what happens. Thanks again and Merry Christmas.
