Hello i have just got myself a new sound card (Trust SC-5250, on the box, in device manager CMI 8738) I have installed it, with the softw and latest drivers, i have it connected to my digital amp via optical (also tried coaxial). It is putting sound through to my amp via these connections, but when i use a DVD with Dolby digital i get nothing.

I am using WinDVD 7 Platinum and turing on the "Digital (S/PDIF) out to external Processor" when i do this for a DVD i get no sound, when its a DIVX i get sound, even though the divx is 2ch.

I CAN get sound from the dvd on Windvd but only iof i tell it that im using a "Analog Sound Card"..................dont know where i am going wrong! Been on the Intervideo site and my card is supported.

Also tried Windows media player, went to tools/options/dvd/advanced, turned on "3front,2 Rear, Sub" and "enable S/PDIF output" no sound again with DVD's!

I can listen to music with WMP via coax and optical.

Am i being really stupid and does the DVD drive need to be connected directly to the sound card?

Any ideas would be great!

thanks!

welcome to the forum, godskitchen (although you joined in 2004 ;))

I would recommend to try out mediaplayerclassic. Enable its spdif support and mpeg2 parser. It works for me great (terratec) :)

Edit: and maybe use "wave out" as the audio device in the software player

Thanks! yes i have been a meneber for a long time without posting! i am going to try mediaplayerclassic and i that fails then i will shoot the sound card!

Have been thinking about getting a sound blaster live card, i hear you can get a lead from one of the ports that connects to coax on a amp? is this right?

Cheers!

before shooting your soundcard read the audio faq (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=68300) ;)

and jap, my sony amp gets a blue light when playingback AC3/dts videos. I use an optical cable (toslink) to connect it with the terratec card...

My Denon gets a red light when AC3/DTS is knocking about, the sound card is just not putting it out!

Have been looking at CREATIVE-SOUNDBLASTER-LIVE-24-BIT-EXTERNAL usb
has a optical output and is ment to be fool proof (saying that the PCI card not working is not down to me)

What do you think of the above external card?

Thanks gor the help so far!
