Hello this is my first time posting in the DVD burning forum so please try and bear with me while I explain the problem I have been having. Before I go on any further I am using a BENQ DVD DD DW1620 with firmware D7W9. Just recently I have tried burning DVD+R DL Media. Mind you I have been burning CD's and regular DVD's for quite some time now with little or no error. About two weeks ago I had picked up a 3-pack of FUJUFILM DVD+R DL. I had built the DVD and set the layer break with IMGBURN 2.0.0.0. After the .iso and .mds file was built I had started to burn it but half way through at the layer break I recieved an I/O Error. (please note I selected the .mds file not the .iso) I had naturally tried it again just to be sure but it still gave the same error. After about a week of searching on various forums I was told that Verbatim was the only choice for Double Layer media. Earlier today I had picked up a 3-pack of Verbatim DVD+R DL. When I got home I had tried to burn .mds created with IMGBURN 2.0.0.0 but still recieved the I/O error. After my first Verbatim disc had failed I had done a google search for the best way to burn a Double Layer DVD and found a page that was written by blutach who I am pretty sure is a memeber here. (a link to the page http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/dl_burn_guide2/dl_burning_with_pgcedit_v2.htm) After looking at the guide I had followed ever step and was told at the end of the process everything was successful. I had proceeded to burn another verbatim disc with IMGBURN 2.0.0.0. (I was worried because PGC EDIT didn't output a .mds file which I have been told is important becasue it holds the layer break but I procceded to burn the .iso anyway) About half way through the burn at the layer break I recieved the I/O Error again. After that I decided I didn't want to waste anymore discs so I decided to post my problem here. My computer specifications are listed below for hopefully better identification of my problem:

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
2.00Ghz
1.50 GB of DDR RAM
250GB MAXTOR
80GB GENERIC

HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8527B (D:)
BENQ DVD DD DW1620 (E:)

Your problem is probably hardware related. Are you sure your burner is capable of burning a DL+R? Can you post the error message of ImgBurn, or, better, the log?

Note that burning with PgcEdit has currently the same effect than burning directly with ImgBurn v2. The guide was written when PgcEdit was the only safe way to burn DL-DVDs from DVD-Video files.
PgcEdit doesn't use the MDS file, because it passes the layer break information directly to ImgBurn via the command line, at least when ImgBurn is launched by PgcEdit. If you burn the image later, ImgBurn should find the layer break position by analysing the DVD structure. The MDS is therefore not needed in this case.

@r0lZ - the Benq 1620 can write DL DVDs.

@satansraiser - check pout your firmware is up to date - see here (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1905) (latest is B7W9, maybe a typo from you?). Check your DMA is on and make sure your write speed is no more than 2.4x.

First of all I will burn a dual layer later tonight to get a screenshot of the error in IMGBURN. And second it was a typo, I meant B7W9 my mistake. And third im not quite sure what dma is, though I do have an idea so I uploaded a screenshot. Hopefully I took the right screenshot. As always thank you for your comments and help in advance.

We can't see the screenshot until it is approved, but more than likely it will need to be the secondary DMA.

You might like to use www.imageshack.us for screenshots.

Fix your DMA (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44808).

Sorry about uploading it here I didn't know it had to be approved. I not quite sure about the DMA settings so I will wait till another member can help me with it. (Having trouble understanding the link to fix DMA)

Well, your DMA is OK.

You might like to post your ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com) log.
