i just installed a new winxp, and wanted to encode some stuff with my existing settings. I installed avisynth, copied back the plugins, but none of the plugins i use in my script work anymore, like degrainmedia, limitedsharpenfaster, cnr2 etc. What am i doing wrong?

You copied all the plugins to the new avisynth folder's plugins folder, right? One issue is that occasionally other software will mess with the plugin folder location; check the registry, under HKLM/SOFTWARE/Avisynth, where plugindir2_5 should point to the plugin folder.
Of course if your scripts are loading it from a different location that'll mess it up.

nop
registry points to the exact same location as it was before:
e:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5
i 1st renamed the former avisynth folder to avisynth 2.5_backup
then reinstalled avisynth from scratch to the same location as it was before, and copied over all the plugins, but no go
