Improving XviD output quality

Could anyone advice how can I improve XviD (version 1.1.0-30122005) output quality? I am using the Home Theatre PAL profile, target size is 1433600kb and audio format is MP3-CBR (192kbps).

Use a custom matrix, for starters, and filter better. And more importantly, follow the "xvid presets" thread a few down, the most important posts are linked from the first.

what are you trying to fix?
is there too much blocking or is it too smooth or too sharp or do the colours look dull or something?

I don't know how to explain it exactly, it's like when there is movement I can see what I would call "waves", it's like a pixelizing problem. And overall the picture is too smooth.

What bitrate you used, xcy73? I don't know, but you perhaps should try to use MPEG Quantization.

Imageshack, rapidshare, or your ISPs webspace are all good places to host images.

VirtualDub can capture images directly from AVIs. Taking screenshots with printscreen generally doesn't work due to overlays.
