screen trouble

hey guys
just in the last few days, my video files are coming up with a red/pink triangle crossing from to left cornerat a 45 degree angle down to the right of my screen.
it comes up on the tv screen through my video card too.
is my video card stuffed??

Have you, by any chance, installed a demo version of an MPEG-2 codec 30 days or so ago?

i wouldnt know which one it was though. i have installed quite a feq for my encoding needs

would you have any ideas which one it could be?
which programs do this??

you could get GSpot from http://gspot.headbands.com/

drag you video onto it, click the button marked '1' under MS A/V at the bottom left
then you'll get a lists of all the codecs used

if it's one you know you installed as a test then great, just uninstall it

if you don't recognise it then you could try getting media player classic
in it's menu view->options->external filters you can add various codecs and block them from being used
if you block it and then the video plays back fine you know the culprit

another test would be to see if it loads into virtualdubmod and shows correctly
the menu file->file information should show which codec it's useing
if the vid is fine in virtualdubmod but bad in something like media player you'll at least be able to see the two codecs involed and correct it

when i open it in virtualdub and check the file information it says its using XViD (only cause i uninstalled DivX cause i thought it could have been shareware)
in media player classic, it has nothing in the external filters. if i go to add one, i have like hundreds of options, and wouldnt know which ones to try first. if i rtried all of them it would take me hours.

in gspot, i open the file and find that it is using ffshow for video and something for audio.
so i uninstall that.
check it again and still the same red triangle.
check now its using divx, so uninstall that but still the red triangle.
now it says its using xvid, and i figure im just going to keep uninstalling codecs untill something (if anything) happens. and i dont want to do that cause ill lose track of them all.


this is really pissing me off now.
anyone have any other ideaS??

You might want to check to see if you have an "Elecard" codec installed...

If elecard isn't being used it's not the problem.

@zuetamdigitaldistractionsConsidering the source of your video, it's quite possible that your "pink triangle" is the result of a virus/worm/trojan horse, etc.

As stated by "check", you probably should re-read Rule #6...

sorry. i got a mate to come over who knows a bit about computers. he had a look at that log file and figured that it was one of those files that was causing trouble.
so he renamed each one using a process of elimination and found which one it was. then just deleted it.
he thought it was the divx codec which had expired.
