Hi,
I want to give the matroska container a try.

How can I include chapters into mkv? I want to use the celltimes I get from ifoedit.
Is there an easy way?
So far I use AVI-Mux GUI to transmux an avi into a mkv.

By the way I found MKVExtractGUI, does also a MKVMergeGUI exist and where can I get it?

Thank you for any hint.

mkvmergegui comes with mkvmerge (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/), it's called mmg. One of the tabs has a place to load a chapters file in either .txt or .xml format. (Not the chapter editor tab, which is different, but also useful.)

Cell times from ifoedit are not accepted by mkvmerge. You could use chapterxtractor or let DVD decrypter automaticallly create an Ogg chapter file, which mkvmerge does accept.

Great! It works.

One thing:
I use MPC, ffdshow and Haali Splitter to watch my clips.
I noticed the Haali Media Splitter does not work on my system.
When I want to select a mkv file in the windows explorer, the explorer hangs up. Without the Haali Splitter, MPC plays the mkvs with its internal matroska filter smoothly, although the MPC matroska filter are suposed to be "outdated"?

Did you enable thumbnails preview (or something like that) during installation of this filter ?

That brings me a step furher.:)

After reinstalling the Haali Splitter w/o thumbnails preview the windows explorer does not kill itself anymore. Now MPC tries to open a mkv file and leaves me with a black window.

Does that happen for all of your files (avi, ogm, mkv, whatever) or only with the mkvs you have made yourself ?

I installed the Haali splitter once again.
MPC (with Haali Splitter) chokes on a mkv file with chapters.
I got the chapters with ChapterXtractor, then I loaded them into Mkvmerge GUI 1.7.0 and saved them to a existing mkv file.

MPC (w/o Haali Splitter) plays the same mkv file just fine, ignores the chapters, though.

Which means the chapters are not proper. I'm sorry, I can't help you with how to convert dvd chapters to mkv chapters since I have no experience with that, but chapters in mkv do work since I've seen lots of files with them working.

Try to remux everything in the file. I have the same trouble if I mux the chapters to an existing file.

Since this posts, are there any solution to convert celltimes txt to matroska xml?

EDIT: I found it, ChapterGrabber (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=40343). ;)

bye
