some public domain movies downloaded from google video,

mostly gspot says are encoded in opendivx4, played by xvid, but render failed, fourcc is 'divx'
vdub doesnt open them, message is that there isnt a vfw decoder

media player 6.4 and 9 cant play,
mplayer classic uses nero decoder filter

one has mp4 ext, the same as before except that vdub says that cant recognize format, and gspot that it isnt an avi.

could i resolve installing some opendivx4 and mp4 codec?

Or there is some specific program able to decompress them?

ok, solved for the mp4 with Yamb,

remain the opendivx4, movies like "the earth stood still" and 'battleship Potiemkin'.....

Also tmpg and videomach cant open them

In most cases a default install will play fine in mpc, nero, wmp, etc. (mplayer and vlc only use internal codecs, so they're another option.) To load into virtualdub you need to enable decoding with the vfw options, as well. (vdub has never supported mp4 though. Look to avidemux for that.)

i have solved the mp4 with winlame and Yamb,

remain the opendivx4 thing, glad to hear that ffdshow could load them into vdub, but i havent found the way yet...

To load into virtualdub you need to enable decoding with the vfw options,
