mail checker setting??

I have a LED on my laptop which indicates me when a mail is coming without the need to lift up the screen,

how do i set this..?
the software mail check, ask me for the "mail server:", is it pop.gmail.com???i tried but it is not working...

as for the port I put 465 which is the correct port, but it is still not working, any idea???

pop is port 110, but gmail uses s-pop, which is SSL and runs on port 995. Your email checker must have SSL to work with it. The server is correct.

465 is gmail's smtp (outgoing mail) port.

You might have forgotten to enable POP in Gmail (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13273&topic=1555).
