Yep, been waiting for a month, 15 hours left :D.

I love the BDS 2006 IDE and since Turbos are based on that, there's not much that can go wrong.

The free versions does not allow you to install any new components to IDE. But there's no restrictions for commercial use.

There will be a workaround to add 3rd-party-Components. I'll try to install all my own components to see if it will work. I don't know why, but it will be still 10 h to go. Seems they have a delay :(

In der letzten Delphi Hour, die der neue Produktmanager von Delphi, Nick Hodges, seit kurzem regelmäßig anbietet, drehte sich diesmal fast alles um die Ankündigung der Turbo-Versionen. Die wichtigsten Informationen zusammengefasst: Von jeder Personality des BDS wird es eine kostenlose Turbo Explorer sowie eine kostenpflichtige Turbo Professional Version geben, wobei Turbo Explorer als Download zur Verfügung steht und sich durch Eingabe eines Lizenzkeys zur Professional-Version erweitern lässt. Alle Turbo-Varianten können auch zur Entwicklung kommerzieller Anwendungen genutzt werden. Sie beinhalten außerdem den RTL/VCL-Quellcode, jedoch nicht den Kommandozeilen-Compiler. You can use all turbo versions to code commercial programs. In der Explorer-Version ist es nicht möglich, Komponenten von Drittherstellern im Designer zu verwenden. Eine Einbindung per Quellcode ist jedoch möglich. Eine Einschränkung der Turbo-Versionen ist, dass sich nur eine Turbo-Version pro PC installieren lässt, also nicht Turbo C++ und Turbo Delphi nebeneinander. Wer mehrere Sprachen verwendet, sollte auf das Borland Developer Studio zurückgreifen. Ansonsten werden die Turbo-Versionen den gleichen Umfang wie die BDS-Professional-Version haben. Ok, to be short: Nick Hodges, the new product manager told us in his last Delphi Hour much about the new turbos. Of every personality there will be a free explorer version and a commercial version of it. The download version is always the free explorer build which you can enhance be typing the right serial key to a full version where you can add 3rd-party-components. You can use your sourcecode also in the explorer version, so we have to think a little how to add your components without the visual items for the ide. They will include the sources of RTL/VCL but not the commandline compiler. You can use all turbos to code commercial programs. There is another limit. You can only install one personality on your machine. If you want to try out more than one language you have to install for each language another OS or buy BDS-Professional. Against the last personal versions there will be no limitation like the lost of the refactoring function. The turbo versions are now a part of the new software line of the new sister company of borland, so you'll find them also in the future and maybe supporting also other languages.

A bit OT but... is Gambas good?

I would send you a PM, but I can't, cos you disabled it. Gambas is OK. Easy to learn and almost similar to the pascal language. The only thing is, the user of your program have to have gambas running on his system. Write me a PM with your contact, so we can discuss this further. ... back to the topic for now ;)

Downloaded fullspeed for me (200kB/s).

First downside, Turbo Delphi (all Turbos?) won't install if there's already BDS 2006 installed :( . I guess I'll have to install it in VMWare so I can test drive it.

Turbo Delphi is a stripdown version of Borland Developper Studio 2006. It still doesn't include needed DCUs for XML.

RealAnime 5 compile though (was using Borland 2005 Pers).

There will be a workaround to add 3rd-party-Components.

Probably not worth the trouble for larger components, but smaller ones (Like DosCommand) can be added via the dclusr.dpk file.

Just open the dclusr.dpk file and add the component you want via the "Project" menu.

Then in the Project Manager, right click on the dclusr100.bpl header and select "Build".

Of course, your mileage may vary!:D

I just wonder if DevCo will seal this off with an update at some point.....



*Edit* : Forgot to add that you need to import the dclusr100.bpl file, by going to the "Component" menu and selecting "Install Packages..." otherwise the components won't be available on the Tool Pallet.
