hi,
i've a problem when i try to use shrink under wine. When i try to backup, and only when i try to backup, it starts working with analysis but after 5 minutes it always stops and the window vanishes without error messages.

Try out k9copy which is a dvdshrink clone for linux.
What distro do you use?

thanksI've seen this too with certain versions of wine. I don't know of any fix, other than trying k9copy as Amnon82 suggested, or reverting to an earlier version of wine (maybe something earlier in the 0.9x series)

Also, you can try launching wine from the console, so you can see any error message produced when it crashes.

if your looking to shrink a dvd9 to a dvd5 it is maybe better to do it at the command line with native linux apps. Install transcode and use something like this.

tcrequant -i movie.m2v -o shrunk.m2v -f 1.5
