Xvid works on 5536.

Divx crashes media centre in cases of having alot of mpeg4-asp footage in the library. Thumbnailling is a horrid experience of hard disk thrashing.

What if you set xvid to decode divx?
or ffdshow?

Then you'd get no .divx container support.

Also getting c++ runtime errors, like R6025 pure virtual functional call errors on divx player.exe

I'll try to take a look at this and see what I can turn up...

More than happy to work with anyone in Divx on it. :)

Can confirm it's happening on build 5552 as well. On 5552, xvid also crashes. Only ffmpeg is compatible with 5552.

It's mostly the media centre crashing that is causing grief. Typically eshell.exe will crash reporting a divx problem. Reported to Microsoft and it came back under their problem reporting system to contact Divx.

A product idea : MS have released a SDK for media centre extender to enable custom software. Everyone with a xbox 360 can't use the divx format under extender. You could write an extender that transcodes the container format, or in some other way allowed divx container support and generic mpeg4-asp over the xbox 360.

There is some commercial products and freeware products that do transcoding for 360 media centre extender but none support the divx format.

As too, with not being able to run homebrew software on the 360 there is no XBMC for it.

I therefore think you would be uniquely positioned to deliver a demanded service. Ive seen hundreds of complaints from 360 users not being able to stream divx.

If the .divx file only contains video and one audio track, you can simply rename to avi.
