... about how the GK Compression Test works:
...SelectrangeEvery(280,14). It takes 14 of every 280 frames throughout the entire movie, and then when done tosses out the first and last frames (the first frame for the reason you deduced-artificially set I-Frames), leaving 12 of every 280 frames on which to base the results. You can fill in any set of numbers you wish. The people that devised this test knew what they were doing.

Does AutoGK use a similar method (throwing away the first and last frames of each sample)?

(If it does *not*, what would happen if I hacked the "SelectRangeEvery(300,15)" and changed it to 1200,60 -say?)

Hi-

I believe it's the same. A look at the .avs should tell you. If you change it to 1200,60, you're still examining 5% of the frames, but spaced 50 seconds apart (for a 24fps movie), rather than about 12 seconds apart. The results should be fairly similar, but perhaps slightly less accurate, as you'll be sampling from a smaller portion of the movie. Same number of frames, but from fewer sections of video.
