I have a Pioneer 180 burner.and I have been using 8x dvd-r to burn my movies for quiet a while. Now all of the sudden it will only use dvd+r. What has happened? I still have a lot of
-r's to use.

Hi!
You might try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US...

If it was me. I'd (in no order)
Check the status of services imapi Cd burning etc
Back up my system and then restore to an earlier date.
Try a different brand of CD
Remove the device from device manager and force windows to find it (have your drivers ready, of course you can go get them anytime)
Unplug it from the mother board run some alcohol over the part you insert (that must have a name?)
Face the fact that cd burners have a fairly short lifespan but they are cheap, maybe get a freestanding one, I have a sony recorder that uses a firewire but the new ones can use fast USB. (I think USB rocksm and I dislike1394 anymore, it's become as clunky as the SCSI it replaced.
