out of sync when encoded with Xvid

Hello

Could you please help me!! I have encoded a dvd movie using Gordian Knot software with Xvid as the codex for the output file. I used mp3 96kbit CBR for audio. From time to time I have the audio track de-synchrozinzed with video - roughly about 700ms. Also if the movie is 1.20:32 for instance then the audio is 1 second short.
I tried to fix the sound with Nandub (demuxing mp3 from Avi file first). It seemed to work when you play it PC. But when I put the movie into my hardware DVD/Divx/Xvid player I still have the problem.
Could you please point me to my mistake and the way to avoid it.

I used mp3 96kbit CBR for audio
-First of all I would use 128 kbps.
-Second, there's a good guide on how to fix this wit Sound Forge. I know Sound Forge is not freeware but it works.

Asking someone to get $350 software to fix an audio delay is pretty much promoting piracy. Use audacity, it's free, no more buggy than SF8, nearly as easy to use, and has all the essential features for editing. (For advanced processing you'll need other tools.)

Sound Forge would be just a suggestion. I'm sorry if I was misunderstood. I have bought this application and and I was not promoting any piracy. Gold Wave could be another option but I dont know how much it costs. Anyway, thanks for the input on audacity. I know freeware in general is much better than payware. AviSynth is a wonderful example.:)
