Hey guys,

I have read that DL-DVDs don't have an actual capacity of 8,5 GB (as written on the blanks) like SL-DVDs don't hold 4,7 GB. So what is the actual size of a DL-DVD? Is this "formula" for the size correct:

A DL-DVD holds
8.500.000.000 Byte = 8.500.000.000/1024 KB = 8.500.000.000/1024² MB = 8.500.000.000/1024³ GB

correct?

Well, it seems that the capacity of the +R is fixed but that of the -R can be variable. The way to find out is to put your -R into your drive, fire up ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com) in write mode and check out the data in top right panel. The L0 data zone capacity is also important.

However, -R DLs have their special problems and it is strongly advised to use +Rs.

Some technincal discussion can be found here (http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/dl_burn_guide2/dl_burning_with_pgcedit_v2.htm).
