I live in the USA, and I have one PAL tape (Thrust SSC) that I have no way of viewing currently. I'd like to be able to transfer the video to my computer, and possibly make a dvd, but would be happy enough with a computer video.

If I pay a local shop (there's a shop nearby, but I'll have to check if they can do this) to convert from PAL to DVD, what kind of quality will I get?

If I do this my self, I'll need to rent, borrow, or buy a VHS player that can handle PAL tapes as well. Ditto with a video capture card for the PC, unless my Sony TVR50 camcorder can pass through PAL from s-video to the firewire interface the way it can with NTSC.

Since it's just the one time, I'll have a service do the conversion. There are two local shops that can do this, and I emailed them asking about what equipment they use and the cost.

Hi,

Capturing video requires somme effort and investment. For one tape only I think is preferable to use commercial services. But it depends on price, logically.

Good luck
