about 1/2 a year ago, i'd upgrade my old track and ball mouse to a mini optical mouse (greatest thing since slice bread) it's was smooth, light, and quieter; then i found out it has some kind of stand-by mode where it blinks like strobe light, i guess the partially clear case was why it only $4

to the point:

since the blinking light was annoying, i'd decide to un-plug it (from the keyboard) when not in use, now my mouse seem to randomly freeze. i know i'm suppose to de-active devices(thumb drive, camera, scanners) before un-plugin it, it not like there was an option for that (then again, they probabilty thought: "who be stupid enough to do that," yeah, right here)

did i damage my mouse by doing that?

I don't think you can deactivate a device such as a mouse - you're supposed to "safely remove" a drive, but only to prevent the accidental corruption of data. Does the mouse work properly after a reboot? If it does, your system may just not like it being removed and plugged back in. If not, it may just be a poor quality device, predictable of something of that type that only cost $4.

reboot, format, didn't help a bit, but a day of being inactive did the job (for now)

any suggestion about the stand-by mode?

At $4 cut your losses and get a new mouse. They are cheap but I just admit the gaming mice work wonders for graphic editing.

for now: was only 3 mins (dead)

$4 may not be much, but it was still more than the previous one i'd bought

no matter how much i decide to spend on my next one, if i can't nothing about the blinking light, i "could" be damaging that one too
