I tried to open silent hill with ripit4me and it can't create a psl2 file for writing. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

I can tell you that I have seen posts saying RipIt4Me (http://www.ripit4me.org/) can rip this movie.

Suggest you post your logs and stuff at the ripit4me forum. We do not allow IFOs to be posted here.

ripped silent hill with dvdfab with no problems! opened folder with shrink and tried to run but shrink stopped after 30% and says "not enough memory to complete this command" anybody else having the same problem?

I needed to update my ripit4me. It gave me an error: can not create a psl2 file for writing. Then I cancelled it and dvd decrypter could not create a log file. I got the problem fixed now. Thanks. Exactly what do you mean about posting ifos here. I am new to all of this, still learning. Also confused.

IFO files are files on the DVD that are saved in your RipIt4Me application data folder. If they are off a commercial DVD, which they are in this case, we do not allow them to be posted.

I will allow RipIt4Me (http://www.ripit4me.org/) logs, but if you wish to post a DVD Decrypter log, can you please edit out the CSS key?

I managed to rip silent hill, but after I did it I ran into a problem trying to make a dvd of it. I noticed that RIPIT4ME removes some files in the decrypting process. It seems that when it removed a certain vts file it would not play on any dvd player. Is this because the Arcos protection is in these vts files that get deleted?

The short answer to your question is "No". Have you tested your rip by playing it in a software player (eg Media Player Classic or Power DVD?). Does it load OK into DVD Shrink, for example?

Or have you burned a copy already and have trouble viewing that (that could signify a burn problem)?

I tried to transfer the whole video_ts, like usual, to shrink, and it would come out with something like vts file ... could not be verified, please check if the file exists. After trying all that, I deleted everything and tried from scratch again, but got the same result, but any other dvd I used dragged and dropped just fine into shrink. I heard someone say on this forum, i beleive, that sometimes the ripit4me deletes small files sometimes and does not affect the shrink process, and then says that some dvd's get files deleted that are important and shrink will not accept unless it has the important files.

I'm confused RIPIT.

At the end of the RipIt4Me process, there's a button which says open in DVD Shrink. It's as simple as that. When you have finished running FixVTS, click on Open in DVD Shrink and you should be OK. There's no need for dragging and dropping or doing anything else.

Thats right, I didn't use FIXVTS so I will try that. Also, if that doesn't work and I use one of the four options of ripping, (Full DVD, Movie only, movie+subtitles, ISO) I just used ISO option, and it chopped into an 8 gig file, dual layer. Can ISO go 1 to 1 on a dual layer blank disk and still be playable on a dvd player? Someone told me that ISO needs to be reformatted to be playable on a dvd player, is this true?

I'm a little confused... Ripit4Me, by default, automatically kicks FIXVTS on after allowing DVD Decrypter to do its thing. Did you disable this under "Preferences?" If so, absolutely do enable it -- FIXVTS is where complicance issues find their fix; all the steps before it simply remove useless content, remove protected sectors, and of course give you a copy of your DVD on your hard drive. Trouble with removing anything is that you break navigation chains and risk playback problems. FIXVTS exists to remedy this problem.

In my experience, yes. Your ISO, which DVD Decrypter created when you ripped the original disk, already contains information about where the layer break should be. I haven't had any troubles with the few that I've done --

But I will add this: Watch the brand of disk you buy if burning a dual-layer disk. Verbatim's got the top reputation in the dual-layer world, with most other brands having reported problems. I'm not too sure if this situation has improved in recent months, but if you want a recommendation, I'd tell you to use Verbatim. DVD Decrypter will easily burn your ISO to disk... so at least there's no headache there.

And FixVTS will never run on an ISO (the ISO is read only). If you rip in ISO mode, you can safely go direct to burning with ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com), for example. But, if the ISO is too big for a single layer DVD, you will require a DL.

No ARccOS DVDs will open in DVD Shrink and that goes for ISOs of ARccOS DVDs, too. All that happens in ISO mode is the bad sectors in the VOBs have been replaced by the dummies. Little, if any, cleanup has been done.

If you want "maximum clean" and the ability to load into DVD Shrink, rip in file mode (full disk, movie only or movie + menus only) and do run FixVTS, as advised. You can then burn to a DL in ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com) in build mode. Guides on the ImgBurn Forum (http://forum.imgburn.com/). Or you can elect to shrink the DVD with whatever program you prefer.

[Not in "Wizard Mode]: Ah, I see. I usually only use the "One-Click" option so that I can walk away from the computer and come back fifteen minutes later to resume work on my project. Of course in "One-Click" Mode, FIXVTS kicks in automatically. But that's good to know, and helps clarify RIPIT's position for me. Thanks!

Exactly on the head blutach. I found this forum because skittles was having a hard time with silent hill just like me. I noticed that if I try shrink silent hill it errors on me. silent hills is made from Sony Pictures with the AARCOS on it. I'm going to take your advise on FIXvts though for "Maximum Clean". In the past when I've used other programs to rip, I would drag the Video_ts file into shrink and it would accept w/o any problems and shrink the whole file back into 4 gigs. Now I have this 8 gig ISO chunk thats is non shrinkable probably due to the AARCOS like you said below.. right? This is why I asked about DL discs. Thanks for the help everyone.


ps, did anyone out there actually make a successful copy of Silent Hill yet, or is it just ripped junk on an a hardrive?

Lotsa ppl have made successful backups of Silent Hill. Simply re-rip it in another mode, do the optional cleanup (step 3b) and FixVTS (step 4) and I am sure it will load into DVD Shrink. In 1-click mode, it's even easier.

Ripped it useing newest dvd fab decrypter,then Ifo edit,VOB blanker..burned with cheetah dvd burner at 8x

Well, now I've even used FIXVTS, and still it manages to not go to shrink. I've personally ripped and copied over 250+ dvd's (for personal use) and have not had any problems, I will now try dvd fab. It seems like ripit4me ends up getting rid of certain files that it cannot crack through and ends up deleting them and moves on the other stuff. Sometimes that file is not important and shrink will accept, and other times, this program causes certain files to be skipped and overlooked. I get a message always saying "cannot find the file Video_ts 01_... specified" so now I will try this fab thing and see if it's any success

Finally I managed to make a successful rip and burn. I'd advise everyone to get the new DVDFAB beta. It cut through this like a hot knife through butter, with no need to run any fix progs or anything, it's just as friendly as dvd decrypter.

I previously got a Hostel PSL from doom9, so I assume this attachment is allowed. Just thought I'd repay the favor.

Both PSL files in this 7zip ripped the disc successfully. I don't know how RipIt4Me or PGCedit work to create the psl, but it takes less than a second for either program to navigate the disc and figure it out. Either file ripped the disc fine.
