Trouble ripping DVD+RW I burned

Tried DVDShrink, DVDecrypter, Smartripper and copying in Windows and they all stop in the same place on the DVD and won't go forward. DVDShrink stops at the same point in the analysis and won't go further. Someone told me it could be a bad burn.

When I play it on my PC I get to that area and the whole screen becomes a bunch of blocks. I authored it with DVDLab and burned it with either Cheetah or Ashampoo both of which I've had lots of success with. I have a brand new 2 wk. old Plextor DVD drive and burning hasn't been a problem. I've tried ripping by chapter, Cell ID and VOB ID. Is there anyway I can rip this?

I had another DVD+RW with the same problem 2 mths. ago and I looked at the sectors with IFOedit or VOBedit and all the sectors were full of #'s but the area in question was full of "?" marks.

I agree with the one who suggested that it may be a bad burn. You may be burning at too high a speed for your rewritables. Most rewritables need to be burned at far slower speeds than a standard + or - R disk. That'd be where I'd check first; if your burning software is set to "maximum," notch it down to what the rewritable's specs are. Likewise if you normally burn to, say, 8X or 16X +Rs... make sure those speeds aren't automatically selected. There's also the possibility that there's bad sectors on your rewritable in those particular areas. If you're using Nero 6 (or 7), there's a utility that will allow you to scan the surface of the defective disk and see if this is the case.

As far as ripping these files to the hard drive, you could try setting up Decrypter to ignore read errors for these particular disks and see if that works. The downside is that the areas in question might choke a set-top DVD player if you were to burn another copy. It really all depends on how fussy your player is and what the true nature of the problem is.

You could also try DVDFab Decryptor which will deal with the errors.

No it won't. It will simply camoflage them. You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. If the original burn is bad, the rip will be too.

Best you can try rjc7394 is to clean the DVD and drive carefully and try again.

How does it camoflauge them? I had a DVD recorded off the TV and it went bad. No software except DVDFAB would read it all the way through. I created a new DVD and it plays fine.

May have been just a few bad sectors nwg (which may not have been noticeable). AFAIK, Fab still inserts dummies where it finds a bad sector.
