Muxing DTS audio in MPEG PS and TS

Hey everybody!

Somebody know, why there is not any free soft for muxing DTS?
I know only Manzanita, which cost is $800-900.
What is a problem? It is patented or what?

Only explanation i could come up with: like AC-3, DTS is a proprietary codec that is not part of actual MPEG specs, thus if you use it you are probably about to make DVDs. And DVD-Forum and similar movie industry oriented groups have more of a non-open, stuff-needs-to-be-expensive-and-controlled-by-us attitude.

As to why exactly the movie industry chose and still chooses again to include proprietary audio with the open mpeg-video is a mistery to me (i guess it involves money and/or tactics, not an ongoing accident).

update: looks like AC-3 actually is a ATSC standard today (but not ISO)

If your video is standard-def it's possible to use MuxMan to generate a set of DVD VOB files with DTS audio...

From their, I guess you could use other methods to join the individual VOB's into one big VOB file.... dunno about one big MPG file though!

Everything with salesmen is patented.

Why do you want to use DTS over AC3? If space is at all an issue, the AC3 track is a better choice. IMO.

Hi,

I forgot to say, that I need it to HD material.
Unfortunately (as I know) HD is not suported in VOB.

Of course sometimes AC3 has enough quality, and I always check it first.
