View Full Version : Audio out of synch in mp3 audio movies

Hi,

I've realised a while ago that all my movies which have mp3 audio go out of synch after encoding or just by loading them up in virtualdub. If i do as much as preview any mp3 movie in virtualdub, without applying any filters, the audio goes out of synch, even though the original file is perfectly synched.

When i open these movies in virtualdub i get the usual VBR audio stream detected, saying that i might have some delay, but what really bothers me is that i used to get this message all the time, and i usually did as i've been suggested to: ignore the message. Back then (don't know when exactly, don't know specifically when this began to happen, but probably not before my last format), i got the message but didn't have any audio synch problems. In fact, i haven't had any synch problems but now.

Can u help me? I believe i have everything installed correctly. Yesterday, i reinstalled all the tools related to video encoding: video encoders, codecs, audio encoders, etc.

I just don't know what to do now.

If u could help me i would be mostly appreciatted.

PS: My ac3 movie files don't go out of synch. Apparently, just the mp3 ones

It is not an installation problem. VirtualDub tells you what is wrong, it doesn't support (writing) VBR audio. VirtualDubMod does.

the same message appears in virtualdubmod, rewriting the header or not.

it's not about which virtualdub to use. encoding the movie in CCE for example will produce the same audio synch problems.

it's something deeper than just virtualdub

It's not the same message, VirtualDub notifies you of something, VirtualDubMod asks you a question.

I have no clue about CCE, so I can't comment on that. But I don't see how anyone can help you with the information you have just given. I presume the files play fine in your normal media player?

yes they play fine everywhere i play them, using the original files.

i can see it'll be hard to solve this one, but i just don't know what else to say. the only thing i can remember of is format but don't really know if that'll be any good.

at least i wanted to know if there's anyway to "manually" synch the audio again. my biggest problem is to figure out the delay...

Most video converting apps I use like v-dub, nero and mainconsept mpeg encoder somethimes get sync isuess with vbr audio.
Best solution I have found so far is too open the file in virtual-dub, save the audio in a uncompressed waw file and finaly replace the vbr audio with the waw.
anyone have a automatic way of doing this please let me now :)

The best way is to split audio/video using some splitter and after processing video mux them together, you dont need to reencode the audio.

Thats not working if you are making a avi > mpg convertion for a vcd, svcd or other format not compatible with mp3 audio.

In avi > avi reencoding its a option too use audio direct streem copy in v-dub.

I am sure there are lots of other workarounds too keep the audio in sync, but i still miss a easy way of feeding any vbr mp3 avi too whatewer encoding apps I like and not get audio video out of sync.

@sjursen

Even if you are selecting direct stream copy audio will be out of sync

The easiest solution would be to extract the mp3 audio, convert it to ac3 audio with BeSweet/BeLight and then use VirtualDubMod to remux the new audio with your old video.
