I'm not sure if this is the place for this, but there's no studio hardware section, so I posted it here.
You may have noted from previous posts of mine that I (and a friend) are trying to create a DVD production company. I have been making DVDs for friends and friends of friends for the past few years now as well as a few other clients, since I got hold of a copy of Spruce & a MPX2000 card way back. The MPX2000 is long since gone and died a death, a very stupid death, it never came with the APX2000 card, since then, I have been getting by with a canopus card & software encoders.
I'm just trying to gauge what is needed for a small company with a desire for growth. I really prefer all hardware to be rack mountable (or of similar size). I will need to get most hardware from ebay, as we don't have a huge amount of money, and would very much appreciate if people could recommend good manufacture and models. Also any other items that may be needed. I'm competent on the computer front (I use PC) but any information is also welcome.
This is what is needed as far as I understand. Input device(s)/deck(s), other video equipment such as standards conversion, sound equipment likes of multi tracks, NR etc & hardware encoders (both/either external or internal cards).
Also information on how to hook them up. I've learn from setting up my home cinema that cables are a costly part of any system. Since we're starting off small, there will be a very small network, and all encoding will probably be done through one machine, another for authoring and one more for menus, editing, compositing etc. We may have another for audio with a small mixing desk, but I'm unsure of a good set up. We will have a small SAN or something similar too.
