How can I analyse an XviD-video regarding frame-type, bitrate and so on?

The best would be a real-time analyser, which lets me set the area of the video to be scanned. Or one which shows a curve parallel to the video or...or...

I want to analyse a compressed video and check if the codec does what I want, depending an my settings.

Try Google searching DRF analyzer, it's the least buggy free one. Otherwise elecard streameye, which is slightly less buggy with a few more features for $600.

Buggy, you said buggy? :) never had any probl with it, be sure to use the last rev: 0.95.

For xvid, you can also get infos on the file, aspect ratio, packed bistreams and the CQM used with Mpeg4modifier, thread in this xvid section.

Have a look at Yuri Khan's XviD Stats Analyzer (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=100770&). Nice Tool. Pity that it only analyses stats logfiles, not video streams.

It crashes on me occasionally, usually when fiddling with the graph, and can't read some perfectly normally encoded files. *shrug* But it does what it does well enough.

DF-Analyzer: Works really fine! :) Knowing about exploding bitrates is one thing, seeing a graph showing it happen another! ;) I really learned a lot about the use of b-frames, also!
I'm just missing a way to determine average bitrates for certain areas (for example for checking standalone/divx-compliance of a video).

About the stats-file-analyzers: Nice tools, but when using 2-pass-mode I have bitrate-control in XviD anyway to prevent overflow :confused: (although controlling it might be important for debugging and stuff).

The quickest way would probably be to directstream the chunk you're interested in out of vdub, then look at the properties of the new one. Hmm, and vdubmod shows you the location in the file of the current frame, but that includes audio as well. I don't know of a tool that could let you highlight a range and get info on it like that, or more specifically a vbv compliance checker. I only know of mpeg2 tools.

Maybe I am wrong but If I remember correctly VLC can show a sort of file stats during the playback.

Yep, VLC displays input data rate in kb/s under "Media Info"->"Statistics".

Only that audio is included is disturbing (and that you have to be watching the data rate with one eye and the movie with the other one :eek: as it's real-time).
